As part of the traction and dynamic tests, uSky Centre held runs of the Karat U4-212 uBus using electric power from the string rail transport overpass. These tests are necessary to ensure uninterrupted power supply of the uBus.
Power supply of the uPod using right and left rails is achieved due to the absence of wheelsets in the design of Karat. Another contributing factor is the above-ground string rail overpass. Therefore, there is no need for an additional contact conductor and current collector.
This approach maximizes the reliability of transportation and simplifies the maintenance of the entire uST complex, which includes the string rail overpass, uPod, automated control system, and infrastructure facilities.
Engineers from Unitsky String Technologies Inc. have previously tested a similar system at EcoTechnoPark.
It is worth mentioning that the Karat uPod is energy-autonomous. It means that even if the contact network fails completely, the vehicle is capable of reaching the nearest station relying on its built-in energy storage system.
